The units used AEC 150HP engines. 302 individuals units were produced, and the sets ran in two and three car formations. The set were mostly allocated to East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and East Anglia. The units were built from steel, which gave them a traction advantage over the lighter Derby Lightweights in which many of 105s would find themselves replacing in service after 1969. The units were in service from 1959 to 1988. Sadly on one Power Car and two driving trailers have been preserved.
