History:
The class 73 are a class of 49 bimodal locos designed for the Southern Region of British Railway. They can run via 3rd rail 650 / 750 Volt DC system or on there internal 600 HP Diesel Engine. The class is split across two different subclasses these being the 73/0 and 73/01. The class was introduced between 1962 and 1967
The 73/0 where built at British Railways Eastleigh works in 1962, and the 73/1 where built in by the Vulcan Foundry in Newton le Willows between 1965 and 1967. The 73/1 have a higher top speed of 90MPH.

The class 73 is an extremely versatile design which saw them used extensively across the southern region. Finishing there regular passenger services hauling the Gatwick Express. 29 of the class are still in service as there flexibility makes them ideal of engineering trains. Seeing many of them stray from the south of England. 6 of the class are also preserved.
