Diecast Model. Really nicely made. Appears to have been made for the Russian Market judging by the packet.

Production of The Matilda II tank took place at the Vulcan Foundry between 1937 and 1943. It was a large (By pre-war standards). Four man Tank, It came in many variants, and where the heaviest production tank of the UK going into WW2. Only 23 of the Matilda IIs where destroyed or Lost in France in 1940. Product carried on until 1943 and a total of 2987 of all variants where produced. However, British tank design doctrine of 1930s had been found to be flawed during the battle of France and in North Africa. The Matilda II being a slow, heavy armed and armoured tank designed to support the infantry had been found to just be to slow to be able to capitalise on any break in the enemy lines, and this could lead the tank to vulnerable to enemy forces. It was also not the most reliable tank of WW2. However, it had been shown to be strong and powerful tank by early war standards, and enjoyed a lot of success against Italian Tanks and German Panzer 2s & 3s.. Considered obsolete by the Mid War and with Valentine and American built M3 arriving to British Forces, it was felt the Matilda II Could be exported to Support the Soviet Union in the Winter of 1941. Of the 2987 produced, 1084 were exported to the Soviet Union. However only 918 would arrive due to losses at sea while being transported via the Artic Convoys. The tanks where pressed quickly into Soviet Service and where most famously used in the defence of Moscow during the winter of 1941 - 42. Sadly in Soviet service the tanks slow speed and by now, small gun was found to be lacking compared the Soviet built T-34 and KV1. But they did help to plug gap left by losses during the Nazi invasion during the summer of 1941. The Matilda II, played important role in the battle of Moscow. The Soviets would attempt to up-gun the model with 76mm gun, but this wasn’t deemed a success, and the track and dirt shoots of all Matilda IIs where found to problematic in Frozen Mud and Snow.
