History:
The class 60s where that last british deigned Diesel Electrics to enter service with British Rail. The locos where built by Brush Traction of Loughborough, and total of 100 where produced between 1989 and 1993. They share a common body shell with the class 92. Powered by Mirrlees Blackstone engine and x6 Brush Traction motor the class was designed to move the heaviest of Freight on the UK network. While the class has been a relative success. There at times poor reliability, higher axel loading and lower top speed of only 60mph, means they havnt been able to match the availability and costs to operate the slight less powerful class 66. Many of the 100 have spent large parts of there working life since privatisation in storage. However there sheer power means they still mean that some of the Class have regular work on some of the heaviest of freights. They are most numerous in and around the East Midlands hauling heavy aggregate and cement trains.

60006 built in April 1990, and enter traffic with British Rail later that year. She originally carried the name “Great Gable” until 1997z During privatisation she came into the ownership of EWS. Who used her on there British Steel contract and painted it in British Steel Colours and renamed her “Scunthorpe Iron master”. She Carried this name until 2009, when she was transferred to Colas Rail. Sadly her career didn’t last very long with Colas, before returning the Rebranded DB Cargo. By 2020 she had been withdrawn and has the dubious honour of being the only member of the class which has formally been withdrawn and scrapped.
