A bang up to date model. The model is beautifully detailed, and far better looking in the flesh, compared to photos provided by Hornby. The model has nice features such as a fire box glow and flicker. Spung buffers, opening cab and roof vents. The model also comes with a large detail pack and painted crew. The model is DCC Ready with a 21pin socket, and pick ups power from loco and tender and the model has a diecast boiler. RRP is £256!

Loco History: 92002 was only the third 9F built out of 251, built at Crewe and Swindon between January 1954 & March 1960. She, like the majority of the class, built in Crewe with a single chimney. She was out shopped on the 16th of January 1954. She was fitted with a BR1G tender, and was one of only a handful of 9Fs to carry the early BR crest. She was first allocated from new at Ebbw Junction depot in Newport, and would remain on the Western Region for the majority of her career. She was moved out of Wales in April 1963, moving Tyseley Depot where she remain until November of 1966 (albeit it with a short allocation Banbury in the summer of 1964). She was still allocated to Tyseley until depots closure to steam. With steam dispersing fast across the UK, she was moved to short allocation across Birmingham at Saltley, before moving to the last bastion of steam in the North West of England. The loco would finish her career allocation Birkenhead Mollington Street Depot, but was withdrawn after failing while visiting Speke Junction Depot after hauling a rail tour on 11/11/1967. She would be one of the longest lived 9Fs having a service career of 13 and 3/4 years. Sadly 92002 didn’t avoid the scrap man. While 13 years is a very short service life for a loco, especially for a loco that was a very good design, it’s far better some some of her class mates who where withdrawn with only 5 years of service. In preservation nine 9Fs have survived with 5 of them steaming preservation. Only one. No.92134 is a single chimney Crewe built loco, despite these 9Fs making up the majority of the class.
