The model works brilliantly, and is one of the Oxford N7s with revised and much easier to access base keeper plates that’s doesn’t cover the NEM Pockets. The model does have some flaws. It’s is missing of water tank filler caps and does have a scuff on the roof. The model also has new buffers on the rear buffer beam. The model is however nicely detailed, and mostly made of metal. It’s also a great runner.

The L77 (LNER N7) were designed by A.J Hill of the Great Eastern Railway for Suburban Passenger work out of Liverpool Street Station. Built in five batches from 1915 to 1928 the class would number 134 locos in total. The first two batches of which twelve locos were made, were built at the Great Eastern Railways works Stratford. The third batch was also built at Stratford but after the grouping of 1923. Preserved Example No.7999 from the 3rd batch was the last loco built at Stratford in 1924, before the closure of the site.

The N7 where renown for their quick acceleration and the use of Westinghouse Air Brakes aided in there ability to start a train quickly after stopping, as they didn’t need to recreate vacuum after every stop. The class was so successful that LNER would build another 112 locos from there works at Gorton & Doncaster, as well as private contractors Robert Stephenson & Co (20) and William Beardmore & Co (20) across five more batches. Many of class were originally built with condescending gear, and all examples originally came with Belpair fireboxes. Over time the class and or members of the class would be modified leading staggering number of subclasses. Six in total when including the original locos. The majority of class would eventually gain Gresley Round Top boilers. While the majority of the class spent their working lives in and around London on the famous Jazz Trains, some of the class did venture further afield. By the 1950s examples could be found all over the former GER and M&GN systems. A few examples were even modified for Push Pull operations on the Kings Lynn shuttle service from the former M&GN South Lynn station to the former GER Kings Lynn station.

No.1011 (LNER 8011) was from K85 (Second Batch) of N7s built in 1921 and was the twelfth member of the class and the last built by Great Eastern. She was modified in 1936 with the removal of her Condescending Gear. She was rebuilt with a round top boiler in 1940. Renumbered twice between 1944 & 1947 she would enter British Railways Service as 69611. Allocated to place of birth her entire career, she was withdrawn and scrapped in Autumn of 1960.

The Model depicts 8011 as she was in the late 1920s and early to mid 1930s.
